• Santiago de Chile, 1978.

Envolved in the complex social context and a difficult result of the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship, Raúl Peralta Paredes O. (in their fifties), is obsessed with the idea of being as close as possible to the ''Tony Manero'', the character played by John Travolta in ''Saturday Night Fever''.

Raúl Peralta (Alfredo Castro) creates a dance group in ''The Black Rose'', a club located on the outskirts of the city. Every Saturday evening, he unleashes his passion for ''Disco Music'' imitating his idol.

Obsessed with reproducing the atmosphere of the film, commits a series of crimes and robberies to get all the fantasy elements of the character in the movie. Finally, he can finish his dance floor, so now he can dance on it in search of his dream, which is to be applauded for their neighbors.

He hears a impersonators contest TV show ''One O'Clock Festival''. This may be the opportunity for Raúl to be recognized by the general public as a showbiz star.

Meanwhile, his dance partners who are involved in secret activities against the government are persecuted by the secret police of the country.

Set during the tough social context of the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship, TONY MANERO is an awkward movie.
