About the Mary Queen of Scots 💬
''Mary Queen of Scots was born a Catholic. As Protestants fight to control Scotland, the infant Mary is sent to Catholic France. At 15, she marries the heir to the French throne. At 18, Mary is widowed and returns home. Scotland is now dominated by Protestants, and governed by her half-brother.
Elizabeth is England's Protestant Queen. By birth, Mary has a strong claim to England's throne. Her very existence threatens Elizabeth's power.''
MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Saoirse Ronan).
- In a time of Kings, two Queens rule.
Queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry and instead returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her ''sister'' in fear and fascination.
- Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence.
To secure their thrones, the two Queens make very different choices about marriage and children. Mary's reputation is under continual attack from her enemies, who construct lies about her sexual conduct.
- These queens bow to no one.
Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty.
- A friendship that became a rivalry. A rivalry that became a war.
Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both Queens - driving them apart, as each woman experiences the bitter cost of power - and change the course of history.
- Look who's who.
