A guy holds an umbrella over the head of a high school girl living in the same building as him. ''I'm your neighbor.'' But what to make of this statement? This brings us to the central idea of this film: the moment that we believe we can trust our neighbors, we also face great risk. Sometimes their presence helps us to breathe easy because we know they will be there for us, but sometimes we are caught off guard by them, and sometimes they inspire suspicion in us. The fact is that our closest neighbors can also be the most estranged from us. THE NEIGHBORS explores this aspect of the modern condition.
